When the ticket came through, thought they were just going to issue a ticket and give me 3 points, unfortunately they have asked me to appear in court as it cannot be solved by a fixed penalty fine. Does that mean it's very serious?

For my sins, I'm a litigation solicitor.

I don't do motoring stuff myself, but I know a bit about the law relating to it and can always ask specific questions of one of the specialist guys I work with who do do that kind of stuff.

Hey Mark,
At SM4, remind me to ask you about the corporate IT contract I'm trying to write up at the moment. It's worth a beer to ya. Cheers in advance.

No problem, Chris - always happy to help out, if I can. If I can't, Craig will probably be able to - non-contentious stuff is more his side than mine, but I'll see whether I can help

I'll go with Mark on this one. Got nabbed at 106 on the M4 - bang to rights.
Went to court without solicitor, declined offer of duty solicitor, explained intent to plead guilty and entered plea of mitigation.
14 day ban and

I have these problems too. It would be great sometimes to still be able to look stuff up.

The NIP has been around for yonks there's nothing new about it. It's required for speeding and several other offences. It's actually a simple statement " The facts will be reported to the Chief Constable for consideration of the question of prosecuting you for exceeding the speed limit" It can be given verbally at the time by the officer in which case that should be recorded in his pocket book and would be sufficient in itself. It's more usual for it to be served by post within 14 days of the offence. If neither of these two things is done within that time scale, then the prosecution cannot proceed further.
