The only reason the screws are there is so that the disc doesn't wobble when the wheel is removed. They're not going to come off, even if they caliper is removed.
Whilst I agree with that statement, I have seen people who have not been able to part their alloy wheels from the disc due to corrosion! (admittedly, not on an S!).

I think I'll just ask Brayley not to replace the screws, sounds like the simplest option.

I've got BI discs for the front, so those'll be replaced before the start of the track season with some Dixcel items, provided Dixon can actually source some.
I disagree with the not fitting the screws thing.

Ok, the discs won't fall off when the wheel is removed and the wheel clamps the disc in place, but the screws centralise the disc and also prevent it from moving and letting crap in behind it when you remove the wheel. Then you run the risk of the disc not running true.

If you use the impact wrench properly they come off relatively easily on that basis there is no reason not to use them.

Hi Simon,

If you do take it in to Brayley I would be interested in their response to your request!

It's the crap behind them thingy you wanna avoid.

Plus the electrolytic corrosion to the wheels.

leaving bits off - the mark of the bodger

the number of cars I have worked on where some bit has not been replaced

and funny how they are so often the awkward nuts and screws

learn how to use an impact driver or use a drill to remove them and then replace as described

I don't thik anyone has mentioned heat yet though

Hasn't caused me a problem in 20 years of fiddling with cars. Every time i've found i can't get a disc off it's because someone has battered the screw half to death then given up and left it.

Anything that falls off the back side of the disc will be dealt with by gravity.

The only time i've had something stuck in there was when i forgot to clean a new disc properly before fitting it. Far as i'm concerned, those screws fall into the same category as headlight bulbs that can't be changed without taking half of the car to bits.

As for leaving bits off being the mark of the bodger, the number of spring supports that 'professional' mechanics leave on after a PDI is the mark of what in your eyes. Only one of these things is dangerous.

I expect they'll say "no", probably quite rightly.

In fact, I may just take Stooky's advice in future!

Thanks again all

Stooky's advice was good, all done now and MOT passed.

A special thanks again to Keith for braving the freezing conditions on Saturday morning.
