Thumbs down Help! Problem When Changing Gear

Hi,

My MY02 is absolutely fantastic, but there is one problem which is really worrying me...

Basically, when the car is cold and I try to change gear there is a little 'resistance' before it changes up. This 'resistance' is the same sort of nasty noise and grating that you would get if you tried to change gear without engaging the clutch i.e. an awful grinding noise.

The noise and resistance last about 0.5 second before the car changes gear and is perfectly driveable otherwise. Once its warm (say after 30 mins driving) the problem goes and changing gear is much smoother. I am *fully* engaging the clutch when I change gear so its not that.

Any ideas? Car is still under warranty so I will pop down to the dealers to get it looked at (I'm already planning a trip to get my alloys replaced due to corrosion grrrrr).

I tried to do a search but I keep getting an SQL error back...

Off to the dealer - could be sorted by a change of oil or it could (as it was for me eventually) be a new gear box under warranty. There have been enough of these changed (as you'll see if you manage to get the search engine working) for Honda UK to know that there is a problem with some boxes.

Thanks for the responses. I'm off to my local dealer this afternoon who say they will take a look... Unfortunately, my local dealer is Francis of Leicester who don't have a very good reputation so far on the dealer satisfaction survey.

Lets hope the prove me wrong....

Out of interest, if the gearbox needs chaging, how long would my car be off the road?

I had my clutch replaced recently and I guess when they did this they changed the gearbox fluid because the gear shift was definately slicker afterwards

Not sure about gearbox, but clutch replacement was about half a day.

My gearbox was replaced at around 12,000 miles after the synchros in fifth collapsed. It was taken in and diagnosed and a new 'box ordered that day. It arrived two days later and the car was in for the day to gave it changed. It might have been ready before the end of the day - I don't know.

Mine was dropped off in the morning and delivered back in the evening having had the box changed.

Well I went off to the dealer this afternoon and they seem to think its transmission fluid related. The thing is my car has done 25k miles, so its 2k miles away from the 27k service. They say if the oil doesn't fix the problem they will take it one step further (and presumably replace the gearbox/clutch whatever).

On that basis they said *I* would be charged around

sod that
Tell them you want a new gearbox under warranty then if they don't play ball switch to another dealer, that is shocking behaviour. Don't spend the money I am pretty sure you are going to end up getting the gearbox replaced, I had mine done at 24K for exactly the same thing as have numerous others.

And on the service don't pay more than
