Ah, so this is the sensor which stops you engauging VTEC when the engine is cold.

Apparently there's a filter behind it too, in between the valve assembly and head...might check this next time I've got the tools out.

Yeah I'm not Tony Hart.

In the pic where i have highlighted plastic ring, it has a Hex Bolt on the end thats why i presumed i could just replace this item.

Perhaps you could try one of the members breaking an S? I dare say that they aren't required often so you should be able to pick one up for a few quid...if not, the whole thing for a little more?
