Help, clicking from rear brakes and Technical questions

to give a constructive reply to your question
i believe that the rear pistons are on a rachet type system that allows the piston to move out of the caliper without rotating. you only need to rotate the piston to make it retract back into hte rachet. if you don't line up the lug with the pad then the piston is in the wrong position and with not rachet properly. therefore you will see increased pedal and handbrake travel.
hope that makes sense.

This I don't understand, and I'd like to:
When changing the rear brake pads, you have to 'screw' the piston back in to accomodate the thickness of new pads - you then have to ensure the lug on the back of the rear pad is located within the groove of the rear piston - so far so good...
So as the pad wears, how does the piston 'unscrew' itself to compensate for the thinner pad lining if the pad is in the piston groove?
Difficult to explain, but my drawings are worse... does anyone know how this setup works???
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Richard - this makes perfect sense.
I was wondering whether this had anything to do with my brake pads rattling in the calipers (pad lug and caliper lining up etc.), but it doesn't sound so.
I guess this won't fix my boot not opening on the remote fob either
Neil - it's all a bluff - I just copied and pasted a question from another forum

DUDE! It was the ale talking - I never owned an MGF, honest!
Anyway, even if I did... ( ), the chat was always about the bloody thing falling apart! See for yourself
Glad those days are over!

Set of Ferrodos from Hellfords. Marked as 'Preludes' but are exactly the same as the S pads.
I am now toying with the idea of getting a set from Honda, but I resent paying all this cash - there must be way getting this sorted...
