Default Help: Alpine Headunit

Anyone know whether a US bought Alpine HU will be compatible with UK radio signals etc?

On FM yes on MW no. US radios use a tuning step of 10Mhz whereas in the UK it is 9Mhz so if you were listening to R5 live the closest you can get on a US radio is 910 ..... which is OK.

If you never listen to MW radio there shouldn't be a problem.

I think there's something about this on the Lucid website as well.

I'll shift this to the main forum, to give you a better chance of getting informed responses, JMP.

(Not to suggest that Steven's reply wasn't informed, of course )

No RDS / Radio data / traffic info. They don't seem to exist in the US.

You could always get a pricey DAB adaptor - if the US unit takes it

According to the website some are satelite ready for DAB. I guess most of the Alpines do not have traffic announcemnets anyway or RDS?

The Alpine in the Civic VTi does, but it's quite old now.

The Clarion I had in the MX-5 was great. I got bored in an M25 traffic jam. Fiddling with the unit, I switched EVERYTHING on.

For weeks thereafter, I was shocked out of my torpor as "weather," "Drama," "Pretentious Crap" "Foo'ie" or whatever, interrupted my favourite CDs.

It took me ages to get it all switched off again!
