Default Hello there, and a few questions ...

Hi Guys

Seems I must have registered here in another lifetime and never posted, S2000 ownership is an itch I've need to scratch for years and now is the time but I must be getting old as I have some sensible yet extremely boring questions ( that I couldn't find in faq)

1. What real world mpg are people getting , once I swore I would never ask this question of a car ...

2. What year did the tax change from standard rate to your killing the planet pay more

At the moment I have my sights set on as low a mileage 03 as I can find , I prefer the pre facelift styling but like the convenience of a glass rear screen and marginally less rwd hero handling

Thoughts tips and bad jokes welcome

Right quick intro update
My Name is Rik from the Stroud Valleys in Gloucestershire , I am 30 something (2 I think) and I restore and Upholster Vintage and classic RR and bentleys , always been a car nut and my daily drivers are almost always Japanese/Honda
Q shameless pic whoring and trip down memory lane
i had a couple of Citroen's followed by an RS turbo escort ( in white) followed by another Citroen, then I found Honda which led to my first 4th gen Prelude, a lowly 2 litre which ended up a bit fast and furious ( tastefully i may add)

then I got my first proper Honda a 5th gen Prelude Type S, all the motoring journos who pronounced the ITR the best handling FWD car had obviously not driven one of these

It was awesome and was written off by some old fool who confused a roundabout with a T junction (easily done), brief spec , Tanabe manifold + cat back , ITR recaros , Teins , 320mm brakes NSX callipers, mugen bits etc etc etc

Which led me to an MX5 which was at the time a cheap alternative to the s2000 as I was starting my own business, but I caught the JDM bug and it was suddenly and expensive alternative to a S2000

There is no Brief spec on this car it had everything , but basically 200hp turbo , full red leather interior , every rare dream part an Mx5 owner could think of and a couple of mag features, but as is always the way I went to far it became a chore to use on our well maintained local roads

So I went practical ( or at least as much as something with an RB25 could be

brief spec , Optional Dayz body kit , fujibitsu legalise , ganadors, GTR wheels etc

and that is now although there was a passat in there somewhere

I have a couple of permanent fixtures in the fleet to
A series one landy

and my current long term 32 ford "hotrod" project

there are various other Vintage and classics in the family that i get the use of and a good stream of interesting customers cars i get to drive but thats a different story
now I have pic whored, bored you all and made myself feel slightly better about missing an MOT with a customers car this morning I shall rest easy

30 MPG average, but I didn't drive like a dick. That was mixed roads with a little bit of fun here and there.

Get an 02-03...they are cheaper than the MY06 onwards and have the glass screen you're after. MY04-05 are the facelift version without ludicrous road tax.

Hi KFC,
The magic road tax date is 23rd March 2006, after that it's obscene.
(my S was registered on 22nd!)

Good luck in your quest, I wouldn't worry about fuel though...just eat less.

Hello KFC
My 03 car is for sale on here. It has still not quite done 40,000 miles: I've done maybe 200 miles in it since I wrote the advert, because I didn't use the car during the winter. Get in touch if you're interested!

Cheers , btw my real name is Rik but presumably some american has stolen that user name

My days of driving like a dick are "mostly" over and 30 sounds good to me, The Mpg is really just justification to my family (and I) that an S2000 is a sensible fuel efficient alternative to my current Uber barge
although my commute consists of 5 miles of Down really steep hill, Up Really steep hill, down Really steep hill and repeat to go home so nothing is great around here

You will have to excuse my left hand it has obviously decided there are not enough capital letters in the world

Simon do you have a link to said advert ?

Short runs and town driving yields 23ish, Motorways plus A-roads, 28-32, 50-60mph for a full tank might get you 34-35, but then you'll be bored! I did a steady run to and from a mate's house along the M4 at indicated 74mph and got 33-34. I was bored. I've had 12mpg on a track day, including the trip to/from the track. That's not boring.

Drive it how you want to and be safe in the knowledge you'll be getting pretty good mpg for such a car.

I have to admit I'm the odd one out, all the rest of my mates are running flatheads but to get as much power as I've got standard it cost one 10k and both are less than an s2000
