Agree Nigel, seems like the budget was there for a nice stroker & ITB build!

A shame in a way as it would have been more interesting (to me at least) to see what you intended to do N/A.
Strapping on a Supercharger / Turbo gives you performance without to much thought. (imo) but good luck with it all.

Guess I'll have to just see what other weight saving measures you will be doing to keep my interest.
Dont underestimate how much he has just bitten off!

FI track S2000 is a very unreliable beast. I hope supercharging proves a more reliable track toy than my turbo'd abomination !

FI or not I've got a feeling this is going to be a very enlightening thread for some.

It may highlight the differences between a race car and a road car that's been 'modded'.

Looking forward to seeing the cage

Its the full race kit (18psi, 1000cc injectors as a minimum). Engine will be a full build to suit, forged rods, pistons etc......we're not spending a year on this project to slap a SC on it and watch it go bang without upgrading and researching all the weak points first

Was all for staying N/A myself but the offer from Rotrex was great and for the Time Attack classes it suits us better to be in the Pro Class with CBH driving for us. N/A would mean staying in the Challenge class which is a little bit 'busy' on track to say the least....

About time we saw a UK race prepped S2000. I like this thread a lot so far.

Of course, the F20C is fully forged to start with...

Pistons will be fine, H-Beam rods, harder rings and maybe drop the compression to perhaps 10:1.

Knife edge/balance crank, but it can take the stress.

I'd then set the RPM limit at 8400-8500 as you no longer need 9000 (or 8900 ).

Valve train will be fine, barring the retainers which will need to be replaced.

All IMHO of course

Noob question, what is seam welding, and why is it done?

Presumably for additional strength/stiffness?

Yep, for exactly that.

Due to time, cost, and robot access constraints, the car will have been designed to be spot welded in a way that the compromise in structural rigidity was as small as possible.

And if you look at the picture supplied by HEL, you can see that this is indeed the case and Honda certainly knew what they were doing - the actual chassis hasn't required a lot of welding.

I wouldn't expect the seam welding alone, on the S2000, to offer up more than a 5% gain in torsional rigidity which is why it is pointless for a road car.

However, as we all know, a racing car will need every advantage it can get
