HEL Performance 2012 Time Attack Build

Would it not make more sense to just chop it out completely and replace with a lightweight bar? I'm sure i've seen that done on some of the American forums?

Yeah it has been done before, just drill the welding points and remove, but maybe they have a better idea? This can't be the final product so lets see where it goes from here.

There doesn't appear to be enough metal left between the holes so that they can be flanged.
I would have thought that some rigidity might have been lost.
Maybe HEL knows better though?
Chris.

As it says above, this was work in progress and effectively a test with the original cross member, a spare one once this test was done could have been put in its place and cut/flanged all nicely like the cage, but findings mean it wont be needed....as you guys have said its been done before but it was worth finding out the weight difference of removing the weight from a std item, and comparing it to the weight of an equal length of T45 tube....findings now made....T45 tube it is then.

Apologies for the lack of updates the last few weeks, our busiest time of the year at work at the moment so the build has been neglected somewhat...
Fearnot though, new parts due to arrive anyday, namely THE BODYKIT! So aside from finishing off the shell work, it shall be all hands on deck to get the kit fitted so we can get some paint on this beast! Then we can really start moving.
Engine and gearbox now have an ETA of the end of July, so we MAY be able to get it ready intime for a little trip to Zandvoort for the Dutch Time Attack Series, or a shakedown/first run out at the last round of the UK Time Attack Series this year. Ambitious given the work still do be done, but worth a shot.
