with regards to weight of the welding wire gone into the shell.
a whole reel of weld wire is 15kg. i would say the reel hasnt even gone down by an eighth, so i would estimate about 2kg of wire if that.

unfortunetly when building a decent spec shell you will usually add weight, for example the rollcage will add a good chunk of weight, but it has to be had, and any weight added is far outweighed by the added safety and performance gain from shell rigidity.

more pics to come tonight
thanks

few more pics for you, drivers side floor was cut out and all new flat floor fabricated to allow fitment of bucket seat rails.
had to work around the staggered gearbox mount, and at the same time put a bit of extra strength into that area.

I'm curious, did you ever consider making a sort of tube frame/s2000 chassis prototype style setup? Also, could you make a structural hardtop by welding a roof to the pillars and then running trusses of the cage to the roof?

What a superb read. It will be interesting to see how much of this is transferrable to a road car.

I'm planning to fit plenty of creature comforts with strengthened sub frames and chassis gusseting later this year. Will enjoy reading about this.

Please make sure you share where you get many of these parts from.

And please make sure, if you design a kit to remove the brake hoses from the underside of the car and run them through the interior - which undoubtedly you will - there's an off the shelf version available that's compatible with OEM equipment.
