Heath Robinson Silly Question
This is almost certainly a silly question....... but I've been wondering what would happen if you re-routed the airconn cold air directly into the airbox....... on the grounds that cold air increases HP.......
Would the cold air help increase power?
I assume not as we'd all be doing it otherwise...... so I guess the airconn itself would drain more power from the engine than the cold air would deliver.....
anyone know what would happen?

I think that the aircon being on would certainly more than offset any power gains from the cold air generated.
I have what is, I suppose, another silly question - if you got a small cylinder of oxygen, put it in airbox and set it to slow release, would that damage the engine?

Oxygen shouldn't do any harm...... as CC says if it can take NOS it should be fine. All that the extra oxygen would do is help the combustion....... as far as I know a NOS system injects Nitrous Oxide (the extra Oxygen) AND extra fuel the combination of extra fuel and o2 creates the big gains in power....... so without the extra fuel adding more O2 would probably have limited affect?

The reason I ask, is that my understanding of nitrous oxide is that when it enters the air intake, the temperature splits the nitrous and the oxygen. This means that the percentage of oxygen entering the engine is significantly higher than normal air. This extra oxygen mixes with more fuel and thus more power. The nitrous cools the engine and helps stop the engine blowing up. At least that's my "non-technical" understanding.

But the nitrous is heated and pressurised at combustion and this causes an increased oxygen release at pressure, not just passive inlet, `at pressure` is the key encouraging a rapid burn.
Your thought about just the release of oxygen is not like the pressures created with a forced nos setup.

Cheers CC. I had considered getting one of those small oxygen bottles putting it in the air box - maybe increase the passive oxygen intake by a few percent. Just didn't want to damage the engine, by doing something that a more technically minded person would consider stupid.
