Heater dial won't activate hot water valve to heater matrix
Hiya guys, noticed this yesterday, when I turn the heaters from hot to cold (or cold to hot) it does nothing, I checked this today on my drive and it didn't work, when I finished my drive I parked up at my house, engine still running) turned the dial fully cold, looked under the bonnet at the valve, turned the dial fully hot and I didn't move, what I can do is move the valve by hand, but once there, you can't move it back?!
Has anyone had an issue like this? And is it likely to be valve/cable/dial(dash) related? Could it just be a sticking cable?
I'm quite keen to get this fixed due to the obvious weather were having at the moment!

It may have become disconnected at the dial end if all appears well at the valve end, or, if when moving the valve by hand you say it won't move back, do you mean it is now jammed in one position. I'd remove the cable from the valve and try moving it on its own to see if it's that causing the problem, if it moves ok then its time to check that the cable is attached a sit should be and not jammed anywhere under the dash.

No it's like the dial hasn't got the pull to move it, but if you give the valve a push/pull to the position it should be in, you cannot move it any more, which is how it should be, held on the dial position, Which is why I thought the cable might be a bit stuck. Oh well, another little excuse to get the tools out (which I love, obvs...)

WD40 down the inner cable to see if that helps?

Dan, I thought that the valve was activated by the Air mix control motor via the cable you mentioned.
You could try doing this diagnostic and see if your S can tell you where the problem lies? It's from the Canadian manual but I assume it will work for ours...
If there's a fault the orange led blinks a few times:
1 = Air mix motor problem
2 = Mode control motor circuit
3 = blower motor circuit
4 = Evaporator temp sensor circuit
Good luck

Mycable is a bit sticky, it occasionally won't move all the way to the full hot position. Last time it did it was when I wanted to cool the engine on track after getting the water temp extremely high. When the air blew luke warm it scared me into thinking it wasn't circulating properly but it turned out to be just the cale needing a nudge.

Razz, that's what I thought too, was on the Ricky run giving it some stick and my water temps were climbing a little, so stuck the heaters on and it was blowing out lukewarm air, poo'd it a little! I'm gonna take the cable off and have a lube up (matron) tomorrow day, if that doesn't work, ill be using the guide for sure : )
