I think a lot of the niggly comments about the car are valid - but you need to look at the cost aspect.

Honda make very few of these cars and they are "relatively" cheap. It's not specification that costs money - it's the amount that are produced. S2000 is not in the "mass" production zone - so everything that goes on that car is a special in manufacturing terms. Honda could have gone the easy route and pinched bits off other cars - remember Lotus Esprit had Morris Marina door handles - but then it would be a Honda Jazz 2000.

If adding heated mirrors to the spec added 500quid to the cost - would you still want them?

Too true Kobe!

Anyone know how (IF!) Honda makes money on these cars?

Think about it:
  • Unique Engine
  • Unique gearbox
  • Unique instruments
  • Unique diff (? actually not sure about that one)
  • Unique floorpan / chassis

TT - let's face it, it's a Golf
Elise - Nice chassis, the power train is from a volume hatch (and there isn't anything else!)
Boxster - Common floorpan, engine, trim, front body with the 911 (and check the price tag!)
MX 5 - they always planned to make a gizzilion

How do they do it!??!

- Wheels
- Clutch
- Some gearboxes

How do they do it????

OK, what i meant was, this is a convertible sports car, the idea is to keep weight down to a minimum - air con and power roofI believe were included for the US market where a car without them would be considered to be downmarket.
The Northern European market is small relative to the US/JP markets where 'Winter Accessories' are not a selling point.
The Jazz is intended for Europe, hence the things that Europeans want, like heated mirrors.

What I meant to say was that if they're important to you, you bought the wrong car, but to get the same performance and handling you'd have to go a lot higher than

Surely this is an opportunity for someone to make an addon kit that can convert your existing electric mirrors to heated electric mirrors.

Any takers ?
