Default Headlights

Of late, I have noticed that my headlights don't see to have as good a range as they used to. They are good at short range, but I remember them being much better at longer distances.

The alignment is spot on
They are undamaged (I checked them thoroughly after my hit and run)
The lamps haven't broken
They don't flicker
They are clean
All connections are tight
Earths are clean/tight

Any ideas please? Otherwise I'll change the lamps and see if it makes a difference.

That's bizzare, I was thinking the same thing on the way home. (About my lights, I have no idea what yours are like).

I thought I must be just imagining that they were somehow better last winter.

Not on full beam, they're not.

It's probably the 2,000% moisture in the air at the moment. IE, time of year.

I was driving round in the 'Lude with HIDs and fogs on, in order to see the kerbs and road tits and shit on a murky night the other day. And full beam, for total overkill.

Try cleaning the windows & lights thoroughly too; they film up with using the heater to shift the moisture & the lamps are permanently covered in crap.

You have decent lamps in there for main beam. Think the osram silverstars were coming out best when i checked a year or so ago. Anyway much improved with them fitted.

Personally I'd stick with 55w as a side note - ie not 'upgrade' to 100w for a few reasons you probably already know.

Just to clarify, that it is my dipped beam (D2S) that I'm have little confidence in. I already have OSRAMs for my main beam, and they are superb

I'm inclined to think that Ballasts are OK, they usually start to flicker when they are on their way out...maybe this could happen over the next couple of months.

If changing the lamps doesn't sort it, I'll look into the above

As mentioned, the headlights are clean...although the windscreen could admittedly do with a wash.

I'd probably agree with Nicks point on moisture in the air then.

Is upgrading the main beam noticeably worth it?
