Head Unit Swap problems...
... OK, so I have attempted to swap out the Honda head unit for my Sony MD player, followed the destructions from Lucid and it appeared to be a pretty easy opperation.... HOWEVER, when I have come to fire up the Sony, there is some power issues!!!
Power is getting to the unit, as the mini disc will eject and read, etc and the facia will move.... but there are no lights or facia panel readings..... I think that means that the ignition power is failing (ie the direct power is OK). So I have checked the 15 amp 'Radio' fuse, which is fine...... and everything else is working (I think)....
Is there a second fuse on the ignition power circuit for the stereo? If so.... where is it please?
Thanks in Advance good people

Have you used the power from the stock stereo ?
What are the power requirements of the Sony HU, I know that the Alpine HU's need power from the battery as well to power to unit properly.
Bit more info here

Don't know if this is the problem or not though, but worth a try,

Yup, it needs two power supplied, permanent/direct and also an ignition supply. I have basically used the standard wiring loom in the S2K, and a wirring convertor to the sony wiring loom, which should work.... I am sure I have a Yellow Wire, Red Wire and an earth, which should cover direct, ignition and earth!!
I have just swapped back the old head unit and...... now that doesn't work, so there must be a blown fuse somewhere!!!! aaaarrrrrggggggghhhhhh!!!

The DIN Euro connector standard used by the vast majority of head units these days (not sure about the S) allows the pin assignment for the permanent and switched feeds to be reversed (for some unknown reason). It sounds as though you maybe have them reversed in your installation - just try swapping them around and seeing if the head unit starts functioning properly. This can't do any harm.

On further reflection..
I seem to recall that on a Sony head unit I had a while back there was a jumper connection that you could move just above the DIN sockets on the back of the unit to reverse this pinout, which would avoid having to modify any of the wiring - check the installation manual for the head unit, it should mention it in that.
Cheers,
Jerry
