Head unit cutting out
Howdy all!
Went for a drive the other morning and it was f-f-f-freeezing out, everything all iced up, etc, etc. So I put the heater on full blast to clear the windscreen then left it going for a while to keep warm up - brrrr!
Then my stereo turned itself off for no reason. I tried turning it back on but it wouldn't. It's happened before a while ago but sorted itself out...so I thought. Eventually it turned itself back on, but not for long before it went off again. It kept doing this through the whole journey.
I assumed it was some kind of overheat protection mode kicking in so turned the heater onto cold A/C through the 'top-down' setting hoping it would cool things down and stop the problem. But it didn't.
Anyone come across this before? I know there's a lot of wires and not a lot of space behind the HU AND heater tubes/pipes too but if that's where Honda put it surely it must have some heat protection?

I'm sure you've tried but have you checked all the connections? It may be that as you were cramming it all back in that one of the connectors has come slightly adrift and when you are driving, the bumps are just enough to disturb the connection. I have one of these units and it is a very tight fit. Otherwise it could be a faulty unit, dry solder crack etc.

The only time my X100 has stopped working was when the ipod was too cold to function the other morning, so I swapped over to the radio for a while until it had time to get up to "operating temperature". I've not come across the HU turning itself off though
