i can see both side of this to a point,

i have not had any other tyre apart from SO2's on my car , i have read many posts on here with regards to poor wet weather grip, i agreed with this until 2 weeks ago.

after a visit to chris franklin strip down of bushes ect we went on a test drive in the pouring rain with him driving the result was amazing the grip unbelievable.
and chris said i quote "SO2's apparently have no grip in the wet what do you think" as we approached a round about at 80 in the wet.

this is just all my opinion obviously

I've had S02s, Toyos and Eagle F1s on the rear and the F1s come out top IMHO. Much more secure when it's slippery and I don't drive hard enough in the dry to trouble them.

S02s were a POS, dangerous in the wet.

Replaced them with F1's and they have lasted twice the distance and feel glued to the road in the dry.

Much better in the wet too.

No, they just want a better all year round tyre. S02s are heavily optimised for dry grip and hence are the best in the dry at the expense of wet/cold weather performance. Unfortunately this is the UK not florida
I don't want a better all year tyre. I want lots of grip in the dry. In the wet, I just drive a bit slower.

But having said that, I'd say they're good tyres to have in the wet. Pleanty of grip, as long as you've got them warm and avoid the really big puddles.

I had RE050's on the rear last week after two sets of SO2's (40k miles on the car). Haven't driven that much on the RE050's but here are a few observations:
- The car feels more planted or directly in its track on the road. Shouldn't be as the SO2's should do that job but that's my impression.
- The wet grip compared to SO2's is actually amazing. I did a half donut attempt yesterday when it was raining and the rear end would not break away.
- I paid

I sometimes wonder how I managed to use the S as a daily driver in all conditions on 'widow-maker' S02s for best part of 2 1/2 years without planting myself into the scenery, considering they are clearly such a 'POS', 'useless in everyday use'! etc etc

... or is it just the driver...

That said, I also made the decision on my last tyre change to go for RE050As, (in 225!! Sacrelige!!) principally on the basis of availability - the change will have to be made sooner or later as stocks disappear. I didn't notice any significant difference in normal road driving at all. Sold the car before I manged to try them on a track or in the recent downpours...

I am quite looking forward to not being able to get hold of S02s.

I've no issue with them, but have never driven an S2000 so I can't really compare.

That said... I've never seen any non S02 S2000s dissapearing into the distance, road or track, wet or dry.

Me too. I drove my S daily for 3 years in all kinds of weather with the s02's and even did a few wet trackdays too. Never had an issue with them.

They never released any of the diesel from their special reservoir in the wet and i don't even remember having a 'moment' in the wet on the road.

Great tyres in the dry and excellent trackday tyres. Prefered them in the dry to the re050's on my current my06 car. When warm they had more ultimate grip, though when they did let go they could be a bit snappy.

Any way the S02 is now dead. Long live the RE050.

Of course they're already 4 years old, so the days of the RE050 might be numbered too.

What is the difference between the RE050 and the RE050 A

Also a lot of the teg boys seem to like the RE010
