Default Have I got long gearing ?

Recently, I have noticed that my newer S seems to bring up slightly bigger numbers then my old S for each gear and just wondered if the gearing was made longer from 02 onwards.

The readings, I get are as follows:

1 - 43 mph
2 - 67 mph
3 - 93 mph
4 - 119 mph
5 - 141 mph (tested last night gone midnight )
6 - ?????

I am sure my old 00 which now belongs to Mikey K was a few mph shy of this in each gear or is it my imagination ????

Or on the other hand, it could just be that the speedo in your new one has a slightly larger degree of over-read than your old one?

I certainly don't recall ever reading anything about changes to gear ratios being one of the modifications made to the 02 model.

I think it is your imagination....

go to www.reverendsgarage.net and click on technical, there is a gear calculator

Gear has been the same on all the S2000.

IMHO....not likely The output from the speed sensor is 1 pulse = 0.015 mph. The speedo works as if its a frequncy counter i.e counting the pulses from the speed sensor over a given period.
If we assume that the dash electronics have not changed then the worst case error between different dash's is +/- 0.015mph.
However, unless Honda have changed the update speed of the dash ie changed the period of which pulses are counted for I doubt its the dash.

More likely imagination

The first 3 numbers I quoted are definately correct as I use them everyday so I am 100% sure on these

The 4th I am 99.9% sure on as this maybe gets used once or twice a week

The 5th was used only once so far in 6 weeks of ownership in this specific car last night and it was definately 140 + as it was about to go into the first red bar so definately time for a gear change.

As I remembered from my previous car, the numbers were something like this:

1st - 41
2nd - 63
3rd - 91
4th - 117
5th - 136
6th ??????

Obviously not a huge difference but just curious as to what sort of numbers others get as these are definately higher then the last S I had

I can vouch for 93 in 3rd in a '00 model. My passenger pointed out that we were doing 93 when I hit the limiter and we both jerked forward

Agreed - 4th = 116 in mine, the last thing i saw on the dashboard before i shifted, so 117 seems accurate.

Why the flamesuit ? - you are just stating a fact. Thanks for doing the scientific research to prove it tho.

ps - note to self, make sure BB's dont lead the groups at MM1 as they will disappear into the distance and everyone else will get lost.
