It's saved me once (it's broken at the moment so can't save me!)
Usually I spot the Gatso's etc. anyway, but there was a sneaky one round a corner, just where a dual-carriageway comes down to single carriageway.
Mine's a GPS Device - didn't want to invest in a laser detector if they are going to be made illegal

You'll all be part of Blair's britain before you realise whats going on
I don't have a radar/laser/gps/cps/abc/bbc doobermeflip and the 9 points on my license say I don't need one as well

i have a bel radar/laser detector and it has saved me twice. the laser thing is true but the pickup range on scatter is huge and the twice I've been properly (100% for sure) saved has been with lasers.
the 2nd time it was gorgeous weather, roof down and I had been hoofing it.. then bam LASER WARNING at the top of its wee lectronic warble.. so i slammed on and pootled round the corner. It carried on screeching as i cruised past the ing which made me larf quite a lot...
that's six points and

Certainly my Road Angel has saved me. The GPS based thing is great reminder and advance warning on roads you don't know. The radar detector has never picked up anything to my knowledge.
I understand that GPS based ones are OK in France but under no circumstances have the laser or radar detector even in the car.
It makes the Gendames mad and they take it off you anyway - I'm told.

Definitely saved me from 9 points in one day - went over Tower Bridge in London, which is now a 20 mph zone with average speed monitoring - then came back across later that day. Then there was another one part way down Embankment at 20 mph also.
I have the Road Angel - it flashes continuously as you go through the average speed bit until you are out of the monitoring area - well worth it.
