Hardtop Damages Paintwork
Just taken the hardtop off my car (surprisingly easy I thought), but noticed a deep graze/scratch through to the metalwork (1.5inches long) on the shoulder of the rear wing, where the glass sweeps round
Anyone else had this probelm? how was is sorted?
Thinking of asking dealer who retrofit the hardtop to sort it out. (frightened they'll make the scratch look worse though)
Cheers
Dave

The glass/bottom edge of the HT doesn't touch the paintwork at all IIRC. Sounds more like a scratch caused by someone fitting the HT. The prongs that drop into the body can very easily score the paint on the shoulder or boot top if you are not careful.
If the dealer caused the scratch, then they should sort it.

When fitting the HT make sure that the paintwork that will sit inder the rubber seal is free of dirt and dust. Also make sure that the rubber seal on the HT is clean. I have been advised that any dust/dirt will damage the paintwork that is under the hard top, as it moves slightly. The effect is the same as washing the car with grit!!!!

Mines was slightly marked in this area too (but its not deeply scratched and the marks polished out). I think its where the trim at the bottom of the hardtop window rests on the bodywork (is the trim on the bottom of the window in your HT ok as it this that probably stops the scratching?)

Thanks or all your comments guys!
I have come to the conclusion that the damage may have been caused by a poorly adjusted/fitted bracket when the hardtop was fitted.
I'm definately going to get the dealer to sort it out.
I've checked the hard top plastic seal and there is no damage.
Cheers
