£40+ VAT to have someone else skin their knuckles isn't a bad price - it's a good hours work.
My thoughts exactly - I value my knuckle skin!
After checking and seeing how easy it was to remove the console and the radio surround, I decided to have a bash myself.
Ordered all the bits from Amazon for just over £90.
Took me less than an hour to remove the old and fit the new including siting the microphone on the driver side windscreen pillar.
The trickiest bit (not really) was getting the screws from the stock unit's bracket to fit the new Pioneer unit. The holes on the Pioneer were a bit small. I just used a screw bit and electric screwdriver to widen out the hole...

And zero Knuckle skin loss!!

Good work!

Did you remove the pillar to hide the mic cable? Does the mic look hidden?

Pics would be awesome if possible

I just lifted the rubber seal running up the pillar and slid the cable into the recess, with microphone (sans clip) sticking out. Seems to stay put - but I have not been for a serious drive yet. I made a phone call to a voicemail service and audio level seems fine on playback...

I will go for a drive and check the mic stays put and if it does I can upload a pic....

Ok - pic uploaded.
Went for a short drive this morning including speed bumps and less than smooth roads around here.
The Mic stayed put - may have wobbled a bit here and there though..

Did not make a phone call - but I expect that if I roll up the window and keep the mic angled inwards as it is, then this should be about as good as most of the other locations and results suggested on other posts on this forum.

I may make an attempt to secure it a bit more - once I have done a few test calls. According to the MVH-X380BT manual, the mic clip has a smaller detachable base plate and a sticky adhesive pad, which I will try and use.

FYI, the parts I used were the Pioneer MVH-X380BT + PC99-X61 Stalk and PC99-SON adaptor lead. I could not find a Pioneer lead but it appears the Sony leads works fine.

Update:
I took the S2k for a 2hr drive yesterday and the mic stayed put.
I also received an incoming call at one point - whilst the soft top was still up - and the caller did not complain about not being able to hear me etc.
Clearly the next step will be to test with the roof down.
