Handling with S02s vs Yokohama AVS
Hi there
As some of you may know, I previously had a 2002 S2000. The first one I had did not have S02s fitted, when I purchased it the previous owner had fitted '4 new tyres' which was a great selling point, but he had put Yokohama tyres on it (standard on a lot of 'performance' Toyotas such as MR2).
Anyway, I enjoyed the old S2000 (on its Yoko AVS tyres) and could really swing the back out, at leisure.
Bloody hell though, the car I have this time has the S02s fitted and it grips and grips and grips like you would not believe compared to the old car I had with Yokos.
The handling/grip/confidence that S02s gives is amazing, it really is.
So for anyone out there that has an S2000 but never experienced S02s (say you bought used and it has something else fitted) believe me they really are fantastic.
The S02s are in fact stickier than the (OEM fit) tyres fitted to my CBR, and that is saying something!
You'll not be swinging the back end out (in the dry) coming out of junctions with just a small dab of throttle with S02s for sure...unlike the Yokos (although it was fun to do this!)

In fact, out of all the tyres that I have used, I think the AVS sports are the best all weather tyre. A pity that they are no longer made in the sizes I require
I think your geo must have been out on your first car.
S02s grip very well (in the dry) until they stop gripping and then they let go very quickly without warning. This is probably the most common reason for the earlier cars ending up in ditches.

The car and tyres (should I say tires lol) were US spec. Geo may have been different.
Also road surfaces over there are more 'smooth' as it were

Isn't it all a bit irrelevant now as they don't make SO2s anymore....
