had an accident on tuesday
Anyway so it was raining and I skidded off the road and hit a curb breaking my rear left side break disk in 2 along with the tracking rod which snapped and a few other bits. The break down guy said that the gearbox is gone too but the second breakdown fella said its just the back tyre and the connecting parts.
I checked the gear stick this morning and it was going into gear without me even putting down the clutch!!! this was when the car was off though !!!
it felt loose and was skipping into gear without effort like before
what does this mean? please

I cannot think of any way you can damage your gearbox with this accident. The only thing i can think is if your fork clutch release got loose and is creating what you are describing

Could be that the shock has broken somthing like the a pin in the selector chain

Or that youv'e put it into gear so many times without it rolling the gears have aligned.
The only way to know is to get in on a lift and run it, if the gearbox is OK. I would fix the brake and any suspension bits, get it realigned and forget about an insurance claim. A new gearbox is around £5k, but you do see them on eBay for £500 second hand, theres even a guy that does an inspection on eBay.
You dont mention the year of the car, that would be a help.

I think he means it was going into gear without pressing the clutch down when the engine was turned off.

and yes the break disk snapped in two and the track rods gone ! im wondering how much would that all cost
I did a 180 degrees on the A406 from the slow lane to the fast lane avoiding others along the way, but then hitting my rear left wheel on the curb and then ended up facing the opposite direction
the wheels still in place but wont move I put it into first gear and the car keeps jerking forward as though it wants to go forward but because the wheels stuck its stopping the car from moving
my fear was the gearbox I just hope it isn't, sorry im no car expert but we all have to start somewhere
sorry guys it was a bit late and i was tired when i wrote that !
