Default Great British Roads

"The A708 from Moffat to Selkirk is the best driver's road in Britain, according to a panel of racing drivers and motoring journalists. They chose their top 10 roads after spending a month on the road in a Mini Cooper (presumably not all at the same time), looking at drives through regions across the UK, as part of the Great British Roads awards scheme."

I might try the East Midlands (should be East Anglia) B645 route at the weekend as its just only a few miles away.

A537 Macclesfield to Buxton and A5004 Buxton to Whalley Bridge: 20 miles of possibly the most demanding road in Britain. Make sure it is a clear day (it can be foggy up there) when you have an appointment in Manchester, and take this detour. You may have to budget for a set of brake pads though...
I can certainly vouch for this one - I drove it (amongst other roads)weekend before last and had a good couple of hours of for the first time in quite a while

That's why I edited my post to add in the (amongst other roads) bit immediately after posting it, Rob!

We considered a meet using parts of that route.
But our community organiser has given no direction yet

I thought I had issued a fairly specific direction to you minions prior to the last NW meet to SORT IT OUT!

I guess we have enough weekends with decent weather to try to sort something out, but I'm still not very familiar with the area. We could just do an impromptu one and let someone who seems to know the area, like Echo66 or Pie'n'Chips lead....?

I've driven the Midlands route they refer to as well. It's a good drive, but not necessarily the one I would have picked for the Midlands as a whole.

Please no one post any jock routes on that website - we'd like to keep them all to ourselves

I don't think much of the panel if they thought highly of the A708 - it's OK, but by no means the best route in scotland by a long chalk.

There's at least 3 roads in that area that are waaaay better than the A708.

Only decent touge near me is the baldock/buntingford vtec experience and it only lasts a few minutes (and i have to travel 30 miles to get there). Last time i went up there i saw 2 F40s crawling at a snail's pace in the wet.
