Default Greasing rear wheel arch liner

As a preventative method for rust on the rear wheelarches, does anyone pack the rubber wheelarch liners in grease before reinstalling them?

I questioned this a while ago and the consensus was that they have a purpose I.e. To prevent the wheel arches from stone chips and therefore rust. I cleaned mine out, dried them and put them back on, I'll do the same again after winter. Grease may make them too easy to fall off perhaps?!

Grease will be messy and eventually wash off - I cannot think of a more inappropriate medium. Yes I can; KY Jelly. Or mint jelly...

Shirley a light coat of one of the Bilt-Hamber products beneath them would be more applicable, in both senses of the word?

Personally brushed a coating of TetraSchutz underseal along the whole lip. Inside and out. Looks OEM and allows it to breathe and dry out
