Well i was only going by the manual, since only just getting the car i'd rather top it up with what i know it should have...not with what i think will do and mix it with whatever is already in there...

Castrol are the oil experts and recommend Edge 5W-40.

Also to confuse this more you can get edge 5W-40 in A3/B4, C3 or VW 505 01 spec. All are fine for the S2000 but technically the VW spec has a higher lubricity.

So why are we using the 5w-40 when the manual clearly states 10w-30?
People think a higher number is better.
People also think it helps protect the TCT from premiture wear.

Not trying to flame but I don't see the point in a video tutorial from someone using a garage ramp. If you can lift the car like this, or have access to someone who has a lift, you'll know how to change oil.

I have to inch myself under some jacks for an oil change and work round a cross brace. So accessing the filter from below is total hassle.

I've always thought the smaller the gap between the two numbers means the chemical engineers have had to use less clever stuff to get the oil to change viscosity so if they did a 10W40 fully synth I'd probabaly go for that.

As it is, I'm happy to take my car to TGM and for them to use whatever they think is best
When I took my car to TGM recently I was curious as to what oil they used and Tom reply was suprising...they actually use 10w-60. They use this in all the s2000 as Tom says it protects the tct. I didnt have enough time to ask about the science behind it (I thought the oil grade was a bit too thick) but I trust Tom knowledge and judgement.

Why not, it's showing people the problems that they may face when doing it at home...

I understand most people don't have a ramp on their driveway but at the same time having it on a ramp shows people where everything is clearly.

The more people can see / know when they're trying to do it themselves the better.

I now have a decent low profile trolley jack to use in the future - which is one of the points in the video. YOU DO NEED A DECENT TROLLEY JACK!

What's wrong?
If your doing it yourself on your own car and haven't got the time to do it properly then nowt, But as you have done it as a how to video then virtually everything, people pick up bad habits from this type as video and pass them on to others and before you know it loads of folk are mistakenly doing it incorrectly (well that's how this guy did it on S2ki )
