Grade of Engine Oil for UK Drivers

Honda UK recommend 5W-40.
Fuel dilution can be high on the F20 so worth going for a 40 grade to avoid excessive thinning. I have oil analysis results from the last few changes on mine aswell as MBs.
Also the valve gears and high revs can shear up some oils with poor shear stable polymers.

Ok well I need to do this in a couple of weeks.
I have seen some Castrol Edge on eBay it is 5w40 but it says for Turbo Diesels? Is that OK or do i need to look for a petrol version?

Yep the TD is fine, although eBay isn't generally the cheapest place to pick it up from - Costco, Wilco motors and Asda often seem to have deals.
Also @Si2K - that's interesting about the gears shearing the oil, I'd forgotten we've got timing chain and cogs

Just called my local Honda dealers to see what they actually recommend anyway and they also contradict the manual.
They used to use Mobil 1 5w30.
However they have recently changed to Total Classic C2 5w30.
So now I'm more confused and thinking of just buying a half decent branded 5w30?

There are a number of posts above yours giving advice as to which grade and brand and that it is perfectly fine to run a TD oil in a petrol engine (it's oil not fuel!). FWIW Edge was recommended to me by the good folk here when I first joined up; I used it in my previous S from 82K miles until I killed it at 111K and it was perfectly fine.

Well it's always interesting to know the full story isn't it!
I messaged the seller on eBay asking if it was the right oil and he said:
"NO THIS IS NO GOOD. to be sure please use the castrol website enter your reg and it will tell you"
So i guess I need to look for the one that isn't turbo diesel version? Something to do with different detergents in it or something my mechanic friend said?

Whilst I agree that the S2000 manual suggests that the UK doesn't have the ambient temp extremes for the 40 grade oil, please have a search on here for "Castrol Edge" and you'll find about 300 threads all debating this very subject.

And I wouldn't get a half decent oil if I were you, I'd get a decent one.
and stop ignoring the sound advise you are getting, go and buy Castrol edge 5W40.
