It doesn't make much difference. It's far more important that there's oil in there. It'd be better if more people were anal about checking it, than anal about exactly which brand and grade to use.

They recommend 5w40 fully synthetic not just solely castrol edge.

So don't feel like its going to blow up if you use another brand

IIRC they do actually recommend Castrol Edge nowadays don't they?

I'm using 5-40 Petronas Fully Synth, cheap as chips

FWIW my dealer uses a big barrel of Castrol sumthingorother rather than consumer-branded stuff like Edge.

Wow that Shell Helix is very cheap! Will 5 litres be enough with some left over?

You'll need 5.5 litres or thereabouts, I usually buy 2 and the rest does me and the other car for top ups as they both take 5W40.

Local Honda Dealership refused to put 5w40 into a mates S2K and insisted on 0w30.

Hence he went elsewhere, plonkers.

I wouldn't trust Honda with a barge-pole after that and after they changed my coolant and didn't properly bleed the system and the car overheated 2 miles down the road. Annoyingly I picked the car up after the service dept had closed so going back wasn't an option.

Hondata (is that the correct name of the service system?) currently details 0w30 so I'd be wary.

But now I'm straying off topic.

My MY02 drinks Edge 5w40 as if it's as cheap as tap water, so gonna try a different brand next time around.
