Default Got a Stiffy

My doors seem stiff to open and shut. The other day the driver's one was squeaking when it moved open and shut.

Should I grease/oil the hinges? If so, what with?

Any pointers helpful

Old age Ian?

Spraying with white grease should put the spring back in your stiff bits

It'll be a lack of grease.

I used copper grease on mine, but the fact that it has lube is more important than the type. It's not as if it is subject to high loads/temps!

It's something that is always neglected on most cars, as it is never a service maintenance item. Listen to the door on any car over about five years old, and it always groans and never closes smoothly.

I have always, since they stopped fitting grease nipples to the hinges (and that gives you an idea how old I am!), put a large sheet of newspaper on the ground and squirted engine oil on all door hinges. Leave it for a while, and then mop up. I do this at least once a year.

The only problem you will then have is that passengers slam the door shut, thinking that it will resist their attempts to close it like the door on most cars!
