I fold the plate up so it is showing for the road, I can't be bothered with the hassle I'll probably get. I'll just fold it down for meets, shows, photos etc

Heres a video of anyone thinking of getting one.
You can just see the fron of the black runner shows a little. I might move mine back a few more mm. Moving it back though will cause the plate to angle down slightly, I think this should be fine for the road though, with just a little angle.

soulcrew is correct. EU bought HID (or xenon)-equipped cars are required to have headlamp washers lol

2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.

It seems open to debate about the washers as far as I can tell, see Rob1980's replies:

I agree it could cause issues MOT time, perhaps I'll be looking for a used bumper to stick when the MOT comes around

Things could be ok on the washer front, as they are no longer fitted, instead of fitted and not working.
Taken from here:
http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repositor...n%20Manual.pdf
Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.
Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.
Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.
HID lamps may be identified by:
taking a few seconds to reach full intensity
having a bluish tinge to the light
having an igniter module/inverter behind the headlamp
having ‘DCR’ marked on the headlamp lens.
HID headlamps use high voltage and extra care should be taken when inspecting these items.
Method of Inspection
Reason for Rejection
1.
Check the presence, security and operation of the headlamp switch.
2.
Where HID or LED dipped beam headlamps are fitted, switch on the headlamps and check the operation of any headlamp levelling and cleaning devices fitted.
