Good roads, good food & idyllic towns
You guessed it, I’m planning a trip to Northern Italy in the S2000 to hoover up, amongst other things the Stelvio Pass. But more than that, it’s going to be a 2 week tour/holiday, so not just ploughing along the Autoroute to get the miles under the car as quickly as possible. In fact I’m not looking to do too much motorway, but instead visit some nice, perhaps hidden gems along the way. The scenic route if you will.
So my question is this, does anyone know, collectively or individually any really nice areas, locations, B&B’s, roads, restaurants that I should punctuate my route with from Calais to say Lake Garda??

have a look at a few of these routes...
http://www.petrolheadnirvana.com/dri.../alpine-south/
I dipped in and out them to make our route, we did Northern Spain, across Southern France, into Italy vai petit St Bernard (do Bellagio, Como if you can also), Stelvio into switzerland, black forest in Germany, back in France and home...
Super trip, I'd do it again tomorrow.
edit - lake Garda is great, we've stayed in Malcesine twice now, really lovely place to stay.

I've been to lake Garda too, but only on business so I'm keen to go back with the other half

Excellent B & B in southern Burgundy, the car is locked behind gates. La Petit Dennevy, Ester provides an evening meal if required but I can provide details of some excellent restaurants as we know the area well. Le Terroir has been mentioned in the Mail on Sunday. We will be in the area again in July.
We always try and keep off the autoroute doing 150 to 200 miles a day. We have the time as we are there for 6 weeks. I have arranged wine tasting in the Langeudoc, I am in the process of arranging a cruise with a meal on the Canal du Midi.
Let me know if you want more details of restaurants etc, it will be pleasure to help and I normally charge extra for pleasure.

I have just booked a similar trip.. My route is as follows:
Calais > Trier
Trier > Munich (via Black Forest / Mosel Valley)
Munich > Lake Garda
Lake Garda > Genoa (Plan to stop of at Monza/Milan on the way through)
Genoa > Lausanne
Lausanne > Paris
Paris > Calais
I have pre-booked hotels at each point, all of which I booked via Booking.com, all of which have free secure parking.
I did a similar trip on my bike back in 2006 to Lake Como, one of the nicest bits of the journey (apart from the Alps) was heading down through the black forest, some amazing roads, towns/villages and scenery!
Can't wait!

I'm booking up my first big Euro trip for the second week of July! Might see you on route!
We're doing:
Calais > Brussels > Stuttgart > Stelvio > Milan > Monaco > Turin > Matterhorn > Furka > GSB > Lake Garda > Reims > GBR!
I've found so much info on this site which has helped massively. Loads of people have posted links to useful threads up on a thread I made a while ago:

Let me know if you find any hidden gems!
