They're definitely an interesting idea, my dukes have a little magnet near the filter basket but it's less brutal than this! The only issue is with non-ferrous metals which can still cause issues.

I only really worry about it with engines that are going to spend their whole life being utterly thrashed, everything else (like the S) just gets a regular oil change and should cope with the crap we throw at it! It can get all to easy to get wrapped up in oil quality etc, but if you're running a std engine in std conditions then a good semi snyth will almost invariably do the job. I'll only swap to fully synth and a sump baffle once we get some track days booked.

Ultimately I'm going to do 6 month oil changes with synth.
That filter mag will at least add some extra protection and allow me to be a really geek cutting it up to check for ferrous $hit
