Someone called. Although I'm not a race driver. Only racing I've done is with friends in karts. Only tend to get beaten by skinny drivers
Mark: I will race one day. When I have a lot of cash. I'm not going to borrow to race. That's a fools errand. Looking like next year at the moment. It's another month before I can get a medical to get an ARDS though.
Ignoring the whole question of should you be doing this on a public road I shall add this and no more.
The M3 is quicker in a straight line. It's easier to launch quickly. If the M3 has traction control on however, it will be slower in a straight line at low speeds. Once you get to 100mph the M will just disappear. Once you get to 130, it gets even better.
Around corners the M3 just isn't quite as quick. It IS more forgiving though. Ultimately it's the weight that kills it. Stick some Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on it and it might be a different matter, but then you'd have to stick A048R's on the S, and I don't know who'd win.
On the nurbugring I'd be about 5 mph down through corners, but I'd be 5-10 mph quicker at the braking point dependent on various lengths of straight. After 10 laps of the ring in the relatively unfamiliar M3 to me at that time I was already going quicker than the S2000.
The brakes on the M3 are surprisingly good. For an initial stop or two, they're effectively the same, therefore better (ie braking more weight). Fade a bit quicker though.
Both are brilliant cars, overall the M3 is the better car, because it can do more, more of the time, but they are DIFFERENT cars for DIFFERENT purposes.
And don't get me started on the ugly and pointless and 50kg heavier M3 Cab. I would never buy a car that costs less than

Of course the serious point of talking about Chilled is that he is considered a good and fast driver by most on this forum, not as good or as godlike as Chilled lthinks he is I am sure but good nonetheless, and he has driven the S for years, and now the M3 for a few months ... so someone with a perspective on either side. Glad to see he posted at last
