Default Gearbox oil change

Hi,

I'm due to change the gearbox oil, I have 1.8 litres of amsoil here having previously put in Redline, I think I've only done 15-20k but gearbox is a little notchy.

I am correct in thinking I undo the drain bolt (bottom bolt) first let it drain, put the drain bolt back in and then remove filer bolt and fill up a smidge under level with the bottom of the filler hole? Then put filer bolt back in?

I don't have a special tool to fill, what can I use other than buying something? as I've left it late to order a filler suction etc device for Saturday.

IIRC there's enough room to do it with the car jacked up?

Are there bolts magnetic?

Thanks in advance

I managed to do it with a long piece of hosepipe smaller that the filler hole and gravity

Also , undo the filler bolt before the drain bolt. Nothing worse than draining your oil and finding the filler bolt won't come off

Undo top bolt first, then the bottom to let oil out.

Bring a funnel with you to B&Q and buy some clear tubing that would fit to the end of it. 1.5 meters of tubing is more than enough. Feed the tubing from engine bay to the top filler hole and let gravity do the work.

If I recall correctly on standard OEM drain bolts, only the rear diff one is magnetic. However you can buy Mugen/Spoon magnetic bolts for both engine and gearbox.

I use a pump to get the oil in.

Drain wise, just undo the drain bolt.

Fill the oil up until it comes out of the fill hole.

Tighten it all back up.

Thanks All, i have bought the kit Ron has suggested.

Ron, do i just keep filling up the pump or is it a steady flow from a bottle of gearbox fluid?

As above I'd remove the filler first to make sure I could refill the box, and it makes the oil run out easier, I usually wait till it stops dripping and then add a little fresh into the box then waiting for it to run out, hopefully taking any old oil (hiding in hidey holes) with it.

And do it after a long run.

Nice and warm on your handies

I do not think the gearbox drain is magnetic, but I seem to recall the diff one is?

I used amsoil MTF in mine and there was a notable improvement in cold shifting.
