Default Gearbox oil

Hi Chaps, i have noticed the gearbox seems a 'bit' more notchy than usual

TBH i cant 100% remember when i last changed it but it must of been around 20k miles ago, do you think i should change it or will it make F.A difference??? I'm off work tommorow so i could do it - I thought the schedule was quite a bit more than 20k!!??

Gearbox was replaced by previous owner @Honda though this was over 4 years ago

First thing just to check I'm correct when replacing gearbox oil its 75W90 and requires 1.5 litres?

Last time i used Motul stuff.

Thanks in advance

AJ

My 5th gear used to crunch when doing full boar 4th to 5th changes.

Since changing to Castrol SMX-S, it hasn't any more

Really nice smell to that SMX-S too

Might give this a shot then? you reckon its worth it and will help notchiness Ron?

When are you supposed to change the gbox oil at what mileage? according to the FAQ service sheet its 72k miles?

Whats rating of the castrol smx? 75w/90?

75-85w, but you can get 75-90 IIRC.

Since changing to it I have really noticed an improvement!

Personally, I change my gearbox/diff oil every 2nd engine oil/filter change which works out every 8-9k miles

I do excactly the same Do not leave your gearbox oil for so many miles.

If you use Amsoil 5W-30 you will never go back to any other tanmission oil

Redline is a very good choice too for diff oil . I use LE for my diff. It supposed to be one of the best but a bit expensive though

Do not know about Castrol in transmission so i cannot comment
