Default Gearbox Oil

gearbox has felt a touch notchy lately.. i know the cold weather does nothing to thin the oil and that contributes.. but have people noticed a change after having this done? it's an 01 car but has only done 22.5k, it's not due for a change for ages.

also how much have people paid?

I had my gearbox oil changed at the 45k and at the 90k services. Admittedly the car was three years old when it had the first one, and almost six for the second one. My advise would be to have gearbox oil changed regardless of the mileage you"ve done. Whilst you"re at it, you can also ask the dealer to grease the clutch fork (smooths the motion a little bit, and you can better gauge the state of the clutch pad itself) and have a look at your suspension bushes too!

All in all I think I paid 75 squid to have the gearbox oil changed.... apparently its labour intensive and the oil is on the expensive side too!

Mentioned on another thread.

Gearbox oil - Redline MTL 70W 80 - you need 2 bottles
Differential - Redline Gear Oil 75W 90 - only 1 bottle needed

I did Mark, changed the engine oil to Motul and what an amazing difference its made to the car. Feels 100% better to drive, more responsive.

I used Castrol for the gear box though.... and Castrol for the Diff.....

I change mine every year. They put the Honda MTF in and it feels smoother each time. Waste of cash? Maybe, but for the sake of an extra 20 quid or so, who cares?
