Gear box oil and Diff oil
Right Guys!!
know this has been done loads and loads of times but ive looked through the old topics and there are so many different oils and opinions that im at the point where im really confused as to the best one to get.
I know im gonna get mixed opinions as to brand but would like poeples experiences with non Honda brands such as Mobile 1, Castrol etc.
I would also like to know the grades or visc i should be using in each.
Thanks in advance..

Gearbox is Honda MTF or if not available API SJ or higher motor oil 10-30. Does say only use this as a temporary replacement so I guess its Honda MTF.
Diff is thicker, SAE 90 hypoid oil. I normally use a semi synthetic mix.
Hope this helps!

Hi
I did mine just after I got the car. I used redline fully synthetic stuff (can't remember what the specs were exactly MTL for the g/box and GL5 spec for the Diff - I got the specs of this forum and double checked when I brought the oil).
The oil that came out was clear, so hadn't been long since the last change, only really changed it out of piece of mind and therefore didn't notice any difference.
I've used Redline before and been quite pleased with it, but its all much of a muchness really, just get the right stuff.

Here you go mate. The definitive post on diff and GB oil:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?act=S...25&t=229158&st=
Second page has all the info you need regrading diff oil. I change my gearbox oil every 9k miles too with Honda MTF Type II.

1. You can use both multigrade i.e. 75-90, 80-90 etc or straight weight SAE 90. I am using the latter but I have used 75-90 too. You can get Castrol EPX 75-90 from Halfords. If you choose another oil make sure it is GL5 and Extreme Pressure (EP). You do not need friction modifiers for our type of LSD but they will not harm the diff if you did buy one with them in.
2. Yes but make sure it is GL4 as anything with sulfur in it will ruin the GB.

My vote's for Castrol SAF-XO in the diff' (fully synthetic hypoid diff' oil.)
The litre bottles it comes in are flexible and come with a tube to "squeeze" the oil into the diff. Castrol Classic Oils sell it via the post (The number to call is 01954 231 668 if your interested).
