Gatso flashes
Travelling on some road near the A406, I noticed a gatso up ahead. My friends and I all reduced our speeds (31mph in a 40mph) and then to my surprise the gatso went off twice. Now I am certain I wasn't speeding but there were about 4 cars in it's range including mine so I'm hoping I don't receive something through the post.

Was it something going the other way, AB? I've seen that happen before, even though the cameras are designed not to take any notice of traffic on the other side of the road.

Not sure Mark. All I remember is reducing my speed to 30 and then slap bang in the middle of the white lines, the camera flashed twice.

GATSO's do sometime cycle and flash when there are no cars, I've seen this a few times on cameera on the A556 off J19 of the M6.
IIRC you cannot be prosecuted from cameras on the other side of the road, as you have to go away from them, rather than towards then.

Yeah,
There is one in Barnet on the A1000 like that. I thought it got me @ 31, until it was pointed out that it only seems to go off with oncoming traffic.
I dunno if the thickos have noticed it's set up wrong and wonder why it has got no-one in 5 years, or it does work properly as well!
I was all ready to punish it, too!

you can certainly be done by a Mobile unit coming towards them and they do photograph so if it is true then it's only Gatsos (and I suppose setting off a flash in you face is probably not the best road saftey feature.....ha ha had you going there of course this has nothing to do with road safetey and everything to do with taxing motorist to pay for the welfare state)

It was probably due to car car going the other direction (facing the camera) in which case the Gatso is a dummy and has no camera. These have a less sophisticated radar which can't distinguish between the direction of travel.
