Unless your equity in the car is very low (a very small deposit and lots of finance) then gap insurance is not really worth it.
It was invented in the States to cover those owners who bought cars on lease (Personal contract purchase to us) and when their car was written off, owed a lot more than the car was worth. This happened a lot over there when PCP became all the rage and sales were very healthy in the 90's resulting a plummeting used car values when the PCP contracts ended and thousands of used Chevy's and the like hit the market at the same time.
Obviously if they have it, we get it as well.
You also have to remember that for an insurance company to right off a

Does GAP have to be taken at the time of purchase of the vehicle?
Can it only be purchased through the dealer?
How much would it be if I were to do it this way?

We certainly only offer GAP at time of purchase/lease and only offer it on
PCP (personal credit plan) or PLP (personal lease plan)
It is only there to cover any short fall between write off price and what

It WAS a Honda salesperson, which makes it sorta worse.
MCB....great choice
You should see the Australian version of the MCB...with tan leather. I thought it looked pretty smart.....
....I tried the same thing with the dealer.......not sure why he laughed at me

Oh dear that isnt good if its a Honda salesperson. Im sure i could sort the Gap insurance out from here oop north if u decided to take it, let me know.
That MCB with tan sounds quite classy - will have to hunt out a pic on the net. It got me wondering how much it would cost to retrim the original seats in a colour of my choice.
Was dead set on black until recently. I sold a gleaming black accord sport last week but had to have it valeted three times on the day he picked it up (lunchtime!) to keep it clean. Far too high maintainance colour!
