Blimey what a carve-up, and the car doesn't look too good either.

But seriously - Your one lucky bloke.

Incidently, your front airbag prob didn't go off cos you crashed a*se end and side first. By time you hit the front you might not of been travelling fast enough.

Stanza.

Airbags are equipped with acceleromators, I understand - and usually, they only trigger if it's frontal impact leading to a very rapid reduction in speed. I don't think they work "in reverse" if you hit going backwards.

Mine certainly didn't go off when I pranged the S sliding backwards into the motorway armco, and although I'd managed to lose a lot of speed by time I hit, I was probably still doing 25-30mph at point of impact - which would probably be enough to set off the airbag if I had hit head on.

A quick rub with Zymol and the car will look good as new

However, it does look as though the guy in the picture could do with extensive cosmetic surgery

That's not an M3 Pete, that just looks like the innards of a couple of washing machines - you're just having us all on!

Your car is the nice red one on the left, innit?

That's a sobering picture if I ever saw one.

What DID last was a healthy respect for wet conditions and a heightened awareness of the dangers of aquaplaning.

My experience was so dramatic that it's difficult to be objective.

The car was 'on throtte' but not much, I might have braked (probably did at some point) and I tried to keep the wheel straight. It spun like a top.

I think you have to very lucky when you aquaplane. Not least because there isn't a lot of room on our roads. Odds are that within a few feet of hitting water, you will hit something solid.

I agree the S CAN be driven fine in the wet though, like any other car.

My bottom line would be that any car will put you at risk if you combine high speed and deep standing water. Anything else will only help or hinder, not prevent.
