She was fine on the first couple of tanks From bp and shell, however now I'm home and onto a 2nd tank of esso she feels lumpy occasionally. It's branded esso, but the shop is a Tesco booth, proper petrol station though, long before Tesco took over the shop

Had a bad do with the Mrs Mondeo st with supermarket fuel, and neither us went back.

Doubt it's the actual fuel.
Filter. Lambda more likely.
If it's a UK spec, it should be setup to run 95

I thought you should only use 98+ can't see you getting anyway need 240bhp on 95oct fuel
We are lucky as out in Germany you can get 102oct fuel

Even new Golf GTI's and my old Smart Brabus Roadster are 98+
My old Evo 8 wouldn't rev over 5k on 95ron I had to use once

I had to put a tenner's worth of 97RON Esso fuel in yesterday - fuel gauge had three 'blobs' lit then literally five miles later was empty and the petrol pump icon illuminated :|

Anyway, Esso was the best option available. I can't say I noticed much difference over the VPower I've always used in the past, but I didn't put my foot down. No problems, anyway.

Will I'll leave it with esso for now, and if I locate better near me I'll try that for a couple of tanks.

Also anyone know where the diagnostic port is? And is it obd2 or 1 or something else?

OBD2.

Unless you have a check engine light you probably won't find the error code.

There's an FAQ which I wrote about idle / hesitation, with some pointers on what to look for.

ODB2 - in the passenger footwell vertically oriented next to the transmission tunnel

I think Tesco mommentum is fine, and has started to smell the same as v-power, I think they've tweaked their formula to be closer to Shell with the acetone content.

/edit

What he said - look at the FAQ for the idle/kangaroo section - a clean of the IACV should sort you out.

I've run regular Asda/Tesco fuel and have found little difference when running v-power or momentum. Performance wise I couldn't say, as I don't bollock my car everywhere I drive but for mileage a full tank of Asda fuel gave me a nice 300 mile roundtrip last weekend with 1 bar to spare.

When stationary, if I tap the accelerator to rev above idle, I get a dip in rpm down to about 500 then back up to 800 but it's never cut out and when left to idle it sits smoothly on 800.

On my 2004 car I filled it up with 95 RON for 2 years and it was fine, yeah it more than likely didn't produce 237bhp but crucially it didn't damage it. I only changed to VPower for the better MPG, I used to average 30 odd MPG on the motorway with roughly 300 miles per tank. Whereas with VPower, I managed 340 miles per tank and 35 MPG, (I wasn't being that careful either).

Tesco's 98.
Tesco's Momentum is 99RON!
Ok, I stand corrected on the octane level (I was just assuming it was 98 as I don't buy it - that seems to be the generic level for Super Unleaded), but it could be 110 and I still wouldn't buy it!
People have short memories - do you remember the engine problems caused by Tesco's fuel a few years ago?
I wonder what they've done to improve things?
I would guess as little as possible, so that short-term engine problems don't immediately come to light!
