Fuel guage rant
Yes, I should read the odometer more than the fuel guage... I know.
But...
6 bars and 15 miles to get fuel. No problem? Wrong.
After 3 miles, bars had disappeared altogether. Light comes on.
After 9 miles, car is empty.
Refuelled with 10 litres from spare cans supplied by sympathetic father
Light still on. No bars. Car fine.
Other than that, I am worrying that it appears as though I have adopted Gaddafi's line spacing in my posts.

I make a point of filling the tank to the brim every time I stop at the petrol station then reset the trip counter. Once it gets over 200 miles then it's time for me to start thinking about getting some fuel. The fuel gauge is a joke.

Drove to the airport on Monday, had 6 bars and 80 miles to go.
Got 20 miles from the airport and had 3 bars and the fuel light came on.
Arrived at airport with no bars and hope the car will start and aloow me to drive to the garage 1/2 mile from the airport car park.

How hard can it be to make a fuel gauge that's even slightly accurate???

6 Bars, thats all mine has
This caught me out not long after getting the 04. Joined the M6 toll road with it showing about a quarter of a tank, and 30 miles to go to get me home. Within a few miles of joining - and predictably, just after passing the exit to the only services on the Toll Road - it started plummeting and within 3 miles the fuel light had come on.
Cue much consternation and concern that the car would cut out and grind to a halt at any moment I got off at the next exit and drove around for a bit until I found a Sainsbos with a filling station - this was probably about 15-20 miles since the light had come on.
Filled up and the bugger would only take a touch over 40 litres!
The fuel light is VERY conservative on the 04+ - there must have been around 15 litres of fuel left when it came on, if there was still nearly 10 left when I eventually filled up.
I always took it with a pinch of salt after that and tended to rely solely on the odometer to tell me when to fill up.
