Default fuel gauge acting up or rigged petrol pump?

Hey guys,

Went to my local shell garage today with 2 bars on my fuel gauge.
Put 10 litres in, paid, key in, still 2 bars.
Went to the till, told the guy something doesn't seem right. He immediately said that someone else with a similar car had the same problem. I said I never observed such a behavior before.
So, I decided to fill it up. 44 litres later I'm starting to have concerns.
Paid and trying to do the maths.

2 bars with 5 litres?

What are your thoughts? Faulty fuel gauge or dodgy petrol pump? If the latter can I report it somehow?

Cheers,
Angel

The fuel gauge in the S2K is more of a vegue suggestion.

Mine now reads ONLY half full or two bars. So I fill the tank, I drive 180 miles and I fill it again.

If you had then driven a few miles it would have steadily gone up. As said above, the fuel guage on the S is rather vague.

Yeah I had the same thing. I only half trust the fuel gauge. For me 1 litre = 4 miles. My gauge shows full for about 75% of the tank and then drops rapidly.

was your ignition on when you filled it up? If so it won't immediately recognize the new fuel level.

If you put 44 litres in after already putting 10 litres in and it wasn't empty before you started then you do have a problem - but I guess thats not what you mean.

What age is your car - two bars means different things depending on which dash style.

The fuel gauge thing is well-known; it calculates useage and not quantity.

Which is why the petrol fairies steal it out of your tank the morning after a good thrash & then put it back during gentle warm-up driving.

Catches me out every time I return a Jizz loan car. You have to put a tenner's worth in, before it makes any difference to the needle!

What concerns me is how you got 54 litres in an S2000. Do you have wet shoes that smell of petrol?

Sorry for the late reply... and the misunderstanding.
Basically, in total I added 44 litres. 10 first time + 34 to fill it up.

Which sort of translates 2 bars for 5 litres. My gauge is usually responsive after a visit at the petrol station. (MY06)

Maybe I was tired and getting paranoid.

This comment btw was unnecessary. I don't need anyone to patronise me, thank you very much.
