Default Fuel filler hole

OK, you can all laugh at me for this but I need some kind soul to help me here; fairly urgently.

It's Sunday so the dealer where I bought my S from yesterday is closed; I've been out enjoying the car all weekend and this morning needed to refuel it for the first time.

I duly poped the release for the fuel flap (I knew where that was and thought that was the biggest hurdle overcome); then on popping off the filler cap was confronted with something I wasnt expecting.

Instead of the usual large diameter round hole there's a kind of blanking plate thing with slits either side and in the centre a quite small hole with a metal cover that if you pop your finger against will open like a small trap door.

Through fear of attempting to force the fuel nosel against this in the hope that the little door would open under the pressure of the fuel (the fear being that it would just gp everywhere) I ended up buying a fuel can; filling that to 5 litres and then using it's smaller nosel to fit into the small trap door flap; Thus I only managed to get 5 litres which has thankfully just about got me home.

I'm wondering if this whole metal plate with slits and small hole-trap door is actually an insert into the regular fueling hole; perhaps for the purposes of using a different smaller diameter style fuel nosel?

Can some kind soul on here help please as I need to sort thisout today really.

Thanks in advance.
Dan

Just stick the petrol pump in it - it goes in just fine, opens the flap and fills the tank

This is mine. What your seeing it normal.
The only problem you might have is with the fuel pump cutting out. I've found holding the pump handle upside down works best
