Default Fuel Comsumption

Hi, was wondering if people could clarify if my consumption is correct or around the average.

The other week on a tank of fuel the car did 185 miles which to me seems totally shocking. I have fitted one of these carbon rad covers, and Im thinking this is the cause of my problems. The car pulls better now with the improved airflow but im sure this is what the issue is, before im sure I was getting around 220 - 240 miles out of a tank.

any responce is appreciated.

thanks

This weekend away,
M55 - 85 max.
M6 - 85 mx.
M6 (Toll) had a few runs with some quicker motors, quite heavy acceleration, they thought 120 max.
M40 - 85 -90 max.
Off around and about Woodstock, Chipping Norton, Bladon, - A and B roads spirited but nothing extreme.

Filled back to brim in Banbury 41 ltr - 297 miles

No thats not normal at all. Even when I drive mine hard, which is most of the time I get 240 miles out of a tank and then can get about 280 on a motorway run, so something's up.

Its very doubtful its got anything to do with your rad cover to be honest, that'll be for form over function regardless of what claimed benefits it says it has......

How old is the car? Could be a shot pre/post CAT sensor or a few other things....

How does one find out if this CAT sensor could be a issue?

I remember reading on here somewhere that pre MY02 had worse economy due to different fuelling.

I usually get between 200-260 miles to the tank BTW

Are we talking about it being under normal/mixed driving conditions rather than driving it like you stole it?

If it is then you could unplug the lmbda/oxygen sensor and see if it runs any worse or better in terms of consumption - the risk with that though is killing your CAT through over fueling, which it sounds like it could be doing anyway.

Otherwise take it to a honda specialist and plug it into a diagnostic to see whats going on, it'll cost you more but could be more beneficial in the long run.

If it was something like that though or anything else I would have thought that your engine management light would be on.....do you ever get a strong smell of petrol?

I've gotta say though guys....good going on eating that much juice in that little amount of miles! That must be permanantly in the Vtec Zone?!
