Default FTO GPX Good/Bad?

OK guys it's crunch time. I have seen a 4000 mile 2001 Y reg GPX going for 15k. Anyone got any experience with this car?

Looking for comparisons against the S as it's the only thing I have ever driven that has sub 10s 0-60.

You contemplating leaving the ranks of S2000 ownership then, Del......?

StevenM used to drive an FTO, IIRC.

Mark,

It had to be you to comment first! Do you ever log off?

Am having trouble justifying (as Zero) a 2 seater as a daily commute (18000 miles pa) with two children and rather large outgoings. Looking to get something a little cheaper so can put money to work and get back to the 'S' scene in a while.

Having said all this, it's the same argument I've been having with myself for the last 3 weekends and once that monday morning drive is over there is no way I'd part with a car that suits my personality to the ground.

Thought I'd better ask though, kinda hoping someone will say unreliable as hell, expensive to run, and slow as a Boxster 2.7

How much could you get for 2 children on the markets these days Mike?

Having re-read my posts I sound like an old fogey going through a mid life crisis at 30!

I had a 'P' reg GPX for a year before buying my S2000. It's probably the closest thing you're going to get to an S2000 as far as revving the pants off it's concerned. The the GPX has a 2 litre V6 with Mitsubishi's MIVEC system (similat to VTEC). It sounds sweet when you get to 5500rpm and the MIVEC kicks in. Dare I say it, I reckon it actually sounds better than the S2000!!!

It's obviously not as fast, but it's still pretty quick. Handling's not bad either. Although it's not a tight-feeling as the S2000. The back seats are pretty small, so hopefully your kids aren't teenagers - either that or they're good contortionists!!

Try and avoid the automatic tiptronic. Most FTOs are tiptronic - which is OK is you're doing lots of heavy traffic driving. But I found it intrusive and you feel less in control then if you had a manual.

The best resource for info on the FTO is JCars (http://www.jcars.co.uk/mmc/fto/index.html). If you use the search facility, you can normally find all the info you need.

Shame you're thinking of loosing the S2000 though!!

I only just sold my FTO GPX for the a S. To be really honest I'd stick with the S. My FTO was an awesome car with HKS exhaust and ITG Air Filter. Sounds brilliant in the tunnels and stuff but it just never had enough power in the mid range. The other thing is, too many people have them. Only a handful of people had FTO's when I bought mine. Even Max power boys have them now. The FTO community is brilliant just like the S2KI.

The one your looking it is probably the newest FTO your gonna ever get as they've stopped making them in 2001.

If you really want to buy one PM me I'll give you all the information and advice you need to know.

Kev
