Forum Alloy Wheel Experts
Looked but did not find concise answers in the forum and need your HELP!
I have a set of MY04 wheels(ex burnies). A specialist is fixing one with a slightly bent inner rim and the other has 2 chips which need filling in. I believe they are putting the wheels on a lathe and machining the outer rim of the wheel filling in and machining where needed as they have an 18"lathe. Most of the outer edges are kerbed and this is going to be fixed using a lathe.
Now as you know the outer face of the my04 wheel is diamond cut (with inner mini grooves)and this cannot be done here. To be honest there is not much physical damage to the faces excpet for one which has a chip. Its mostly the laquer peeling off. So:
Questions:
1. The finish on the outer rim will be polished (but not like the original). What can i do? Shall i repolish the whole of the wheel face?
2. Whats the best method of removing the existing laquer whilst trying to mantain the current finish of the polished part.
3. Since the laquer exposes the polished part can i repolish it myself (even if i dont get those mini grooves made by the original cut) and maybe get a uniform finish to match the outer edge?
4. Is there a speical laquer that whitstands the elements?
5. Is there a particular paint code to use?
Any suggestions/tips apart from using a diamaond cut(as there isnt one here)?
Many thanks!
