flat battery - jump start?

Microprocessors are rather delicate. The fact you don't 'see' any apparent damage doesn't mean there isn't any. They might go slightly out of 'kilter' which will manifest itself through seemingly random errors.
I don't believe the simple use of a battery connected in paralell without the engine running poses a risk.

If the car is garaged and there is a power socket out there, a trickle charger/conditioner is the way forwards.
Google CTEK 3600XS (which gets a from me) or Optimate.

Me! The CTEK one I mentioned above.
My 911 is absolutely shite at holding a charge if it's left more than 7-10 days without being used - it's a well known problem, aggravated by the extra charge drawn by the Tracker unit. After having to jump it on a couple of occasions, I invested in a conditioner/charger and now leave it hooked up whenever it's garaged. Does exactly what it says on the tin

Yep
I have the jump pack Shipley links for emergencies and an Optimate for long periods of no use in the garage!
Combination works well apart from when I leave the light on!

no,
car not garaged and left outside on drive. the clio is parked in front of it so dont even set the alarm, just manually lock the doors if i know i wont be driven for a while
what really, really peeeees me off is the clio, on a 6 year old battery (changed last year) could sit undriven for 6 weeks and start no problems so why cant the S even with the alarm off?

Has anyone got one of those trickle chargers?
Popular with bikers to keep the bike alarms active whilst waiting for summer
Some immobilisers draw more juice than others, even if the alarm is off I would expect the immobiliser to be active. Do you have an aftermarket stereo or anything - they can draw a bit. God only knows what else is going on you dont know about. Took me days to suss out what that 'Distant Cow Mooing' sound was after parking in the garage!
