Senna88 where abouts in the west mids are you?

I'm in Banbury and have an OBD2 code reader - They can be picked up from china for £20 or so too if you'd rather get your own

It sounds like a code reader will just say there's a misfire on one of the cylinders.

Run the engine and unplug each connector plug in turn, and if the engine note doesn't change then you know in which cylinder the problem lies. Swap the coil packs and do the same again. If the problem follows the coil pack then you know that's the problem.

Right, I'm going out now to swap the coil packs around, will report back.

GhostWKD thanks for the offer, but I suspect it will just give a misfire code, was thinking more to the future that I need to get one!

Ah apologies was skim reading the thread

Like i say the one i've got 100% works with the S as i use it to reset the CEL when my decat triggers the Lambda warning heh... Cost little under £20 from ebay and was shipped from china. Might not be exactly what you were after but its not a big bit of kit

Always handy to have one. Mine's a JDM, so I just use the paupers' method.

Ok well I swapped #1 and #2 and seemed to run a bit better, though was difficult to tell then just disconnected them all individually from the connector (no noticeable difference). So decided to clear the CEL and see if it came on again as it sounded better anyway.

No CEL came back! Took it for a spin, hit VTEC etc and no light! Everything seems back to normal!? (except during the spin I lost one of the screws that holds the pack in place...anyone fancy posting me one?)

So I'm putting it down to luck or one of the connectors weren't seated properly, I'll purchase a set of coil packs anyway for the future but at least now I don't need one urgently.

Hi, sorry to go off topic. I've got a JDM, what's the pauper's method?

I think this is the right link. It looks about right, but I've not bothered reading it all properly.
