Well just heard back from the garage, they're changed the spark plugs and its running fine again! The codes were misfires in cylinders 1, 2 and 3!

Apparently the plugs look like they've never been changed (mileage 75k now) and its the one thing I didn't check when I got the car last month :s

He's gotta take it out for a road test but hopefully that's that! I do wonder why it suddenly became apparent yesterday though?

Similar thing happened to mine but I got no CEL light and car would fail to start at all, even with jump leads from a diesel car.
Changed the spark plugs at the roadside as I already had a set in the boot and was going to change them sooner or later.
The plugs were black on the ends and were oily. Soon as i had them switched over she started up 1st time and has been purring ever since.
I check them every 6 months now just for piece of mind.

Just hope that's all that was wrong with yours!!

Tell me about it! I was mentally adjusting my attitude and budgetting for a new engine! Which means I missed out on MB's supercharger

Oh well, c'est la vie!

Ref reading the code - no, there's no paperclip in the plug solution on the S I'm afraid. It's OBDII reader only!
not true.
well, it is, but only in EU/US markets.

JDM's allow you to read the codes via blink codes.

i dont have the info infront of me, but a google search should find the method & codes on the S. (i think it's a modifry page...)

now it's been sorted, a bit pointless but worth remembering

pointless unless you have a jdm but yeah good to know. I had heard that before somewhere.

My solid and occasionally flashing CEL has gone since I did the valve clearances. Flattening the battery faffing around with the roof reset it for me and hasn't come back.

Glad it was an easy fix

I spoke too soon...picked it up today and all seemed fine, then as I was driving it home it came on again!! :s

So it seems quite intermittent and I think its down to the ignition leads as if the connection is loose/broken. I limped it home as it was 10pm and I wasn't gonna hang around to get stuck in the traffic from the Blues match. I don't think running it would cause any damage anyhow?

So questions:

1. Where can I get some REASONABLY-PRICED coil packs from quickly?

2. Do I need to replace all of them?

Oh and another question, I'm not sure if I read it here or Pistonheads but there's an app you can get to read codes - you just need an OBD II connector - anyone know the name and can provide a link to the info?

Thanks!

Have you checked them? One of my misfires was caused by a coil connector plug being loose.

Four coils cost me about £130 from a breaker, which is about the same price as one from Honda.

GarageR had a few used coil packs in a couple of weeks ago. £30 each. Drop him a PM. He accepts Paypal, and I got mine the day after I ordered them.
